Shared Research and Educational Center of Physico-Chemical Studies of New Materials, Substances and Catalytic Systems

 

Research and Educational Center of Physico-Chemical Studies of New Materials, Substances and Catalytic Systems is carrying out elemental, molecular, phase and structural analysis of a wide range of substances, materials and catalytic systems in gaseous, liquid and solid forms. Measurements of physic-chemical properties and biological activity screening are performed as well.

 

Organic Material Research Group

The group makes qualitative and quantitative analysis of mixtures of  natural and synthetic organic compounds, pharmaceuticals, products of oil processing. It is engaged in determination of pesticides and other toxicants in water, air and soil. It provides elemental analysis of synthetic compounds, soils and other C,H,N,S-containing materials. The group has at its disposal the most modern equipment for the research work: Shimadzu LCMS-8040 system, Euro EA-3000 CHNOS analyzer, Thermo Focus DSQ II mass spectrometer coupled with a gas chromatograph and Chromatec Crystal 5000M gas chromatograph.

 

Laboratory of X-ray Analysis and Crystal Chemistry

The main research areas of this laboratory are:

  • Qualitative and quantitative phase analysis of crystalline materials by X-ray diffraction.
  • Precise determination of different structural properties of crystalline materials (metals, alloys, catalytic systems, semiconductor etc.) from X-ray diffraction data.
  • Studies of the influence of different technological treatment on the microstructure and properties of crystalline materials. 
  • Line profile analysis for the determination of microstructural data: small crystallite sizes and microstrains and their distribution functions. X-ray analysis of residual stress state.
  • Precise X-ray structure analysis for the study of the peculiarities of chemical bonds in crystals.
  • Polymorphism Studies

The Laboratory owns DRON-7 X-ray powder diffractometer

 

Spectral Studies Group

  •  The group is performingmulti-componentanalysis of organic and inorganic samples (solid, liquid and gaseous) in the spectral range from 350 to 7800 cm-1, as well as in the far region up to 50 cm-1. It is equipped by:
  • SHIMADZU AA-7000 atomic absorption spectrophotometer with a flame atomization
  • Clever C-31 X-ray fluorescent spectrophotometer
  • TECAN Infinite -1000 microplate reader
  • FT-IR spectrometer Nicolet 6700/iS50,
  • FT-IR spectrometer FT-801

The group shows high efficacy in screening biological activity of chemical compounds on the TECAN Infinite 1000 microplate reader. Modified acetylcholinesteraseinhibitorassays allow to use this piece of equipment to robustly determine novel inhibitor compounds in series of substances provided by our clients.

Determination of elements from sodium toarangeof 0.0001-100% content allows working with small samples (starting with 50 µL). Heavy metals content is determined in food stuffs, water, soil, pharmaceuticals, biologicalliquids, materialsformedicine. A wide range of test subjects are analyzed, such as food products, alcohol-containing products, oil refining products, ceramics, glass, metals and alloys, absorbents, catalysts and reaction products.

 

Chemical Reactivity Research Group

This group is engaged in catalytic hydrogenation and deuteration of aromatic (heteroaromatic) systems, functional groups and double (triple) bonds in organic compounds. The H-Cube Pro allows our specialists to carry out the reactions of catalytic hydrogenation and deuteration, which are conducted at high pressure (up to 100 atm) and temperatures of 10-150 °C.The equipment which is available for the research work includes:

The Center also makes research in the field of UV-initiated chemical reactions. Photo- and microwave irradiation show the higher efficiency in promoting chemical reactions, leading to different organic and inorganic substances and materials.

Finally the synthesis of powdered and ceramic materials by high-temperature microwavesintering is performed.

In 2015 an educational program «Modern methods of physico-chemical instrumental expertise of substance and materials» was developed. It is completely in English and lasts 320 academic hours. Four specialists of Dominican Republic Customs’ Laboratory undertook studies according to this program last year.

After the studies were finished, the Dominican Republic specialists were awarded certificates validating their educational achievements and souvenirs with PFUR’s symbols.

Furthermore, the following educational programs in Russian are available: «Modern physico-chemical and biochemical study methods. Theory and practice», 72 hours long, «Contemporary instrumental physic-chemical study methods in chemistry, physics, material study and pharmacology. Theory and practice», 36 hours long and «IR-Fourier spectroscopy for beginners», 36 hours long.

The Center works in cooperation with Kurnakov Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of Russian Academy of Sciences, North-Caucasus Federal University, JSC «Farmaceutical factory «Obolenskoe» and other organizations.
