A video translation of lectures in English by professor of international law and director of the Department of international law and international organization at the University of Geneva Marco Sassòli

9 November 2016 a video translation of lectures in English by professor of international law and director of the Department of international law and international organization at the University of Geneva Marco Sassòli was organised in the Interuniversity Resource Center on Human Rights of the Department of International Law of The RUDN University. The target audience of lectures were students of the joint master program “International Protection of Human Rights”, realised by the Consortium of Russian universities

 

The lectures, presented by professor M. Sassoli at the Kazan Federal University, were telecasted to the RUDN University and other Consortium partner universities – Perm State University, Voronezh State University, Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B.N.Yeltsin, Yekaterinburg Humanitarian University and Ural State Law University.

Professor Sassoli presented a block lectures numbering 6 (2 per each day) on the issue of human rights protection in frames of the activities of armed non-State actors. On 9 November professor considered the problem of armed non-state actors having obligations to protect human rights, legally relevant differences between armed groups and private military and security companies (PMSCs). Students also did a case-study - discussion of the code of conduct of the Free Syrian Army and questions of professor relating to this document.

On 10 November M. Sassoli examined the problems of international legal regulation of activities of armed groups and held a case-study on the discussion of the deeds of commitment on children in armed conflicts and on sexual violence of the Chin National Front in Myanmar.

On 11 November 2016 M. Sassoli focused on consideration of problems of legal regulation of activities of PMSCs through international and national level, the liability of non-state armed groups for human rights abuses and mechanisms of enforcement of International Human Rights Law and of International Humanitarian Law. The distinguished lectures complemented mandatory discipline for all students of the Consortium - “International humanitarian law”.
